I compost my waste

Shared composting

Do you live in an apartment building? You can compost your organic waste just like residents of individual homes.

If composters have already been installed in your building or neighborhood—or will be installed soon—

you can take part in the initiative by: Filling out the registration form, Accepting the Composting Participation Charter

Once registered, you will be able to collect your bio-bucket (bioseau), which allows you to transport your organic waste to the shared composter.

You can pick up your bio-bucket:

> When the composting site is first set up

> By contacting your site’s composting referent

> Directly from the SIETREM head office in Saint-Thibault-des-Vignes

I'm interested in becoming a composting site referent

Want to Set Up a Shared Composting Site?

SIETREM, in collaboration with landlords and property managers, offers to set up collective composters in a shared area of your residence.
Each composter is operated by volunteer participants and volunteer composter referents.

To advise and assist participants wishing to get involved in this project, SIETREM is supporting the operation by supplying composters and tools, then training volunteers and referents. The SIETREM regularly monitors the sites, observing the life of the composters and listening to residents who are committed to this eco-citizen initiative.

If you are interested in installing a composter at your residence, contact:
prevention-dechets@sietrem.fr.

No green space in your building? Ask your local municipality to work with SIETREM to install a shared composting site in your neighborhood.

Composting Participation Charter – Best Practices

The practice of collective composting, based on voluntary participation, is reflected in a charter signed between the resident and the SIETREM in order to participate effectively in composting.

The volunteer resident undertakes to :

  • Place chopped kitchen waste into the compost bin
  • Add an equivalent amount of dry, structuring material (dead leaves, wood chips, etc.) and mix using the claw tool
  • Follow the guidelines for accepted and prohibited materials
  • Inform SIETREM of any damage, theft or malfunction of equipment
  • Respond to inquiries from SIETREM as part of site monitoring
  • Notify the site referent or SIETREM if you move or stop composting

SIETREM commits to:

  • Answer residents’ questions about composting
  • Visit the site to monitor the composter’s condition
  • Respond to feedback from composting referents
  • Keep residents informed of outcomes and updates

Once registered, the site’s composting referent will contact you by email to provide your bio-bucket, a composting guide, and a short introduction to best practices.
